Every outside site that links to your page counts as a “vote” for your site, increasing your pagerank. If your site a reputable and knowledgable, you’ll be more likely to have other site’s reference you!

About the visualization

MozRank is counted on a 1-10 point scale, with 1 being a relatively low linking popularity and 10 being an extremely high linking popularity. For reference, the majority of pages you visit will likely have a MozRank of 2, 3, 4, or higher.
